Who’s artist Robert Brochu?

I’m Robert Brochu, a Portland, Maine based artist exploring the space where language, typography, and visual art intersect. After studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, I built a career in design and creative direction before returning to a studio practice centered on words.

I create screen prints, installations, murals, and digital works that challenge the way we experience language. Sometimes the message is immediate. Other times it reveals itself slowly. By stretching, abstracting, and reconstructing letterforms, I invite viewers to look beyond what words say and consider what they do, how they occupy space, shape perception, and create meaning.
